The Lead: Three goals in the second half, including two during the third quarter, helped No. 23 MIT capture a 4-0 road victory over Wheaton College in NEWMAC field hockey action on Saturday. Graduate student
Paige Forester (Glencoe, Ill.) powered the Engineers with her 10th career hat trick.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
- In a scoreless first quarter, MIT dominated the action as it generated 12 shots (seven on goal) and five penalty corners.
Â
- Forester ended the stalemate when she connected on a deflected save from the Wheaton goalie in front of the cage after 2:03 expired in the second quarter.
Â
- The score remained unchanged until the Engineers produced two goals in a span of 4:31 late in the third quarter. Forester collected the ball five yards in front of the cage and then turned for a shot into the left corner with 4:45 remaining in the frame. MIT's lead grew to 3-0 when junior
Eva Oppenheim (Tiburon, Calif.) collected the rebound of Forester's saved shot and put it across the goal line with 24 seconds left.
Â
- Forester completed the hat trick with 1:55 left to play. With her back to the cage, she received a pass from junior
Anna Simmons (Wilmington, N.C.) on her left, spun around, and gave the Engineers the 4-0 win.
Â
