Sailing Races at Hatch Brown Trophy and Regis Trophy

The MIT sailing team took to the water to compete in the Hatch Brown Trophy and the Regis Trophy. The day was highlighted by a third-place finish in the 'A Division' at the Hatch Brown. Overall, MIT finished seventh and 12th at Hatch Brown and sixth at the Regis Trophy.  

HATCH BROWN TROPHY | Cambridge, Mass. | 7th and 12th of 18
  • The Engineers 1 boat took seventh with 241 total points and the Engineers 2 boat took 12th with 294 points.
  • In the 'A Division' graduate student Sam Bruce (Annapolis, Md.) and sophomore Ellie Pinto (Chicago, Ill.) took third with 58 points for the Engineers 1 boat. They had four top-three finishes with two victories. Seniors Brooke Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) and Samantha Karlson (Groton, Conn.) of the Engineers 2 finished in 14th with 117 points.
  • Sophomores Robert Ulmer (Greenwich, Conn.) and Katherine Jankowski (Hillsborough, Calif.) finished seventh in the Engineers 2 boat in the 'B Division' with 72 points and three top-five finishes. Seniors Julius Heitkoetter (Austin, Texas) and Yitian Zhu (Katy, Texas) finished in eighth with 79 points and four top-five places for the Engineers 1 boat.
  • Senior Lucy Brock (Austin, Texas), sophomore Elliott Chalcraft (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and first year Ryan Hoffman (Darien, Conn.) finished 10th in the 'C Division' for the Engineers 1 boat. Sophomore Adé Larsen (Rye, N.Y.) and first year Will Kulas (Jensen Beach, Fla.) finished one point behind in 11th with the Engineers 2 boat.
REGIS TROPHY | Cambridge, Mass. | 6th of 18
  • MIT took sixth overall with 164 points, just holding off Harvard which finished with 165 points.
  • Junior Brooke Barry (West Hartford, Conn.) and first year Christine Keedy Brown (Miami, Fla.) finished ninth in the 'A Division' with 85 points and two top-three places.
  • First year Sophia Woodbury (Sarasota, Fla.) and senior Shayne Bersin (Port Washington, N.Y.) took seventh in the 'B Division' with 79 points and four top-five finishes.
UP NEXT:
  • MIT competes in three regattas next weekend, Saturday, September 21-Sunday, September 22. The Engineers will send boats to the Hoyt Trophy (Providence, RI), Mrs. Hurst Trophy (Hanover, NH.), and the Hood Trophy (Medford, Mass.).
