The MIT sailing team competed at three regattas over the weekend, highlighted by a third-place finish at the Women's Southern New England Team Race.
GEIGER TEAM RACE | CAMBRIDGE, Mass. | 7th of 8
- The Engineers finished Saturday's race with a 3-11 record, earning wins over Coast Guard, Rhode Island, and Boston University.
- Junior Lucas Escandon (Brick N.J.), sophomore Emma Wang (McLean, Va.), and senior Max Katz-Christy (Cambridge, Mass.) were the skippers while sophomore Katherine Jankowski (Hillsborough, Calif.), first year Ryan Hoffman (Darien, Conn.), and first year Katelyn Battacharia (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) made up the crew.
SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND TEAM RACE | NEW LONDON, Conn. | 8th of 10
- MIT finished the weekend with a 6-6 record. MIT went 4-5 in round one, earning wins over Brown, Connecticut College, Coast Guard and Rhode Island. The Engineers finished the weekend with a 2-1 record in round two, defeating Brown and Connecticut College.
- Senior Julius Heitkoetter (Austin, Texas), graduate student Sam Bruce (Annapolis, Md.), and first year Will Kulas (Jensen Beach, Fla.) handled the skipper duties with senior Yitian Zhu, (Katy, Texas) Adé Larsen (Rye, N.Y.), sophomore Ellie Pinto (Chicago, Ill.), Hoffman, senior Samantha Karlson (Groton, Conn.), and Katz-Christy on the crew.
WOMEN'S SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND TEAM RACE | NEW LONDON, Conn. | 3rd of 6
- With a 11-4 record, the Engineers finished tied for second with Harvard but took third based on the record between the two teams (the Crimson held the 2-1 advantage).
- MIT went 4-1 in round one, falling only to Harvard. The Engineers finished round two with a 3-2 record and finished strong with a 4-1 record to close the weekend.
- Junior Brooke Barry (West Hartford, Conn.), senior Brooke Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J.), and senior Lucy Brock (Austin, Texas) were the skippers for the Engineers with senior Mercedes Escandon (Brick, N.J.), first year Tamsin Horne (Broomfield, Colo.), senior Shayne Bersin (Port Washington, N.Y.), sophomore Elliott Chalcraft (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), and first year Sophia Woodbury (Sarasota, Fla.) on the crew.

- The Engineers will compete next weekend at the Staake Team Race and the Duplin Women's Team Race. Both events will take place on the Charles River from Saturday, March 22-Sunday, March 23.
