The MIT sailing team won the Staake Team Race and grabbed a fifth-place finish over the weekend.  

STAAKE TEAM RACE | CAMBRIDGE, Mass. | 1st of 6 

• The Engineers captured the win with a perfect 15-0 record. 
• Senior Julius Heitkoetter (Austin, Texas), graduate student Sam Bruce (Annapolis, Md.), and first year Will Kulas (Jensen Beach, Fla.) handled the skipper duties while senior Yitian Zhu (Katy, Texas), sophomore Adé Larsen (Rye, N.Y.), sophomore Ellie Pinto (Chicago, Ill.), first year Ryan Hoffman (Darien, Conn.), senior Samantha Karlson (Groton, Conn.), and junior Lucas Escandon (Brick, N.J.) made up the Crew. 

DUPLIN WOMEN'S TEAM RACE | CAMBRIDGE, Mass. | 5th of 9 

• MIT finished the two-day event with a 7-9 record.  
• Junior Brooke Barry (West Hartford, Conn.), senior Brooke Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J.), and senior Lucy Brock (Austin, Texas) handled the skipper position with senior Mercedes Escandon (Brick, N.J.), sophomore Elliott Chalcraft (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), senior Shayne Bersin (Port Washington, N.Y.), and first year Tamsin Horne (Broomfield, Colo.) were the crew. 
• In round one the Engineers went 3-5 with wins over Boston College, Charleston, and Tulane.  
• Round two saw MIT go 4-4 with victories over Bowdoin, Charleston, Harvard, and Roger Williams.

• Next weekend will feature three races for the Engineers, who will compete at the Marchiando Team Race, and the BU Team Fleet Race from Saturday, March 29 - Sunday, March 30.
