Sailing Competes at ICSA Women's Team Race National Championship

The MIT sailing team earned tenth place at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Women's Team Race National Championship, which was hosted by Brown University in Providence, R.I. Stanford University came away with the Championship as the Cardinal finished with a record of 16-1.  

Junior Brooke Barry (West Hartford, Conn.), senior Brooke Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J), and senior Lucy Brock (Austin, Texas) were the skippers for the Engineers over the weekend with senior Samantha Karlson (Groton, Conn.), senior Mercedes Escandon (Brick, N.J.), sophomore Elliott Chalcraft (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), and senior Shayne Bersin (Port Washington, N.Y.) as the Crew. 

MIT finished tenth out of 12 teams with an overall record of 4-7. The Engineers earned victories over Brown, Georgetown, Penn, and Tufts.  
 
UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers will await to see if the team is chosen to compete in the Team Race National Championships, which will be held May 20-27 in St. Mary's City, Md.
