CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the most recent Sperry – Top Sider College Rankings, the MIT women's sailing team inched up a spot to No. 12 while the coed unit slipped to No. 14. The announcement comes as the Engineers begin their postseason run at a pair of championship events this weekend.

The coed team will be doing battle at the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Dinghy Championship Western Semifinals hosted by Hampton University in Norfolk, Va. The 18-team field, which can be found here, features 11 squads that are either nationally-ranked or are receiving votes on the Sperry – Top Sider Poll. The top nine finishers qualify for the national championships to be held at the end of May in St. Petersburg, Fla. MIT's contingent features seniors Andrew Sommer (Duxbury, Mass.), Kelden Pehr (Seabrook, Texas), Eben Freeman (Zurich, Switzerland), and Mark Van de Loo (Eau Claire, Wis.) in the A Division while seniors Philip Crain (Houston, Texas) and Steven Drapcho (Newtown, Pa.) along with freshman Jeremy Kalas (Huntington, N.Y.) will compete in the B Division.

The women's team will sail at the New England Championship hosted by Tufts University as the top nine performers will move on to the national semifinal also slated for the end of May in St. Petersburg. The A Division will be comprised of juniors Hanna Vincent (Santa Barbara, Fla.), Iris Xu (Madison, Wis.), and Keren Gu (Bowie, Md.) while freshman Rosalind Lesh (Everson, Wash.), sophomore Laura Dunphy (Shelburne, Vt.), and senior Taylor Burfield (Naples, Fla.) will represent the Engineers in the B Division.
