- Location: George Sherman Family Sports Complex (Storrs, Conn.) and Silfen Track (New London, Conn.)

- The Lead: Over the weekend, the No. 14 MIT men's track and field team competed at the Silfen Invitational and the UConn Northeast Challenge. The Engineers placed 11th out of 20 schools at UConn as they finished with 15.5 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED AT THE SILFEN INVITATIONAL:

- At the Silfen Invitational, the Engineers had four athletes compete in the 5,000 meters as junior
Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas) led the way in third at 14:26.59. Senior
Nicholas Medearis (Palo Alto, Calif.) was right behind him in fourth at 14:30.51, followed by junior
Vedang Lad (Plainsboro, N.J.) in 22nd (15:08.63) and sophomore
Raymond Brookman (Santa Cruz, Calif.) in 30th (15:20.86).

- In the 10,000 meters, junior
Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) crossed in sixth at 30:35.57 and senior
Andrew Mah (Newton, Mass.) was seventh in a time of 30:35.88.

- In the 1,500, first-year
Samir Amin (Olympia, Wash.) was the top MIT finisher in sixth with a time of 4:01.43. First-year
Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) followed in 16th as he posted a time of 4:06.15.

HOW IT HAPPENED AT THE UCONN NORTHEAST CHALLENGE:

- In the 4x400 relay, the team of junior
Evan Schaefer (Frederick, Md.), graduate student
Benton Wilson (Dublin, Ohio), first-year
Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) and first-year
Ian Koe (San Mateo, Calif.) placed sixth in a time of 3:16.75, which ranks them eighth in the nation currently.

- Truitt smashed the rookie record in the 110-meter hurdles as he was fifth overall in a time of 14.78 seconds, ranking 18th in the country.

- Wilson is also ranked in the top 20 in the country as he is now 13th in the 400 meters after placing seventh in a time of 48.28 seconds. Schaefer finished in 23rd with a time of 49.60. Koe won his section of the 200 and was 12th overall at 21.78 seconds, while junior
Jeremiah Budiman (Plano, Texas) placed 29th in the 100 at 11.13 seconds.

- In the 4x100 relay, the squad of Budiman, junior
McKinley Polen (Los Altos, Calif.), Wilson and junior
Omozusi Guobadia (Katy, Texas) crossed in fourth at 42.64 seconds. In the 1,500, sophomore
Henry Hardart (Annapolis, Md.) finished in 13th place with a time of 3:52.11.

Spencer Yandrofski (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was ninth in the high jump with a height of six feet, two inches, while senior
Nathan Basinger (Dalton, Ohio) was ninth in the discus with a toss of 152 feet, nine inches. Basinger also led the Engineers in both the shot put and hammer throw with throws of 50 feet, 0.75 inches and 170 feet, 10 inches, respectively. Basinger was 12th in the shot put, followed by senior
William Woltmann (Secaucus, N.J.) in 23rd at 47 feet, three inches. In the hammer, Basinger placed 11th, with Woltmann in 23rd at 144 feet, 10 inches and junior
Henry Sobieszczyk (Newton, Mass.) in 24th at 129 feet, 11 inches.
