- The Lead: At the Snowflake Invitational at Tufts University, the No. 10 ranked MIT men's track and field team placed first out of 16 teams with 155 points. Overall, the Engineers picked up six event wins at three top-15 national marks at the event.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- First-year
Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) led the Engineers with wins in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles as he ran times of 14.95 and 57.43 seconds, respectively. His 110-meter hurdle time currently ranks him 14th in the nation.

- Graduate student
Benton Wilson (Dublin, Ohio) won the 200 meters in 21.95 seconds to take the event by .12 seconds, along with a third-place showing in the 400 in 49.81 seconds.

- In the pole vault, graduate student
Liam Ackerman (Miami, Fla.) won with a clearance of 15 feet, one inch and he was followed by senior
Max Hardy (Houston, Texas) and senior
Everett Brandyberry (Hill City, Kan.) at the same height in second and third. Hardy and Brandyberry are now tied for No. 14 nationally as the Engineers have three vaulters among the top 20 in the country. In addition, junior
Ben Urquhart (Lansing, Mich.) placed fifth in the event as he cleared 13 feet, 1.5 inches.

Sam Engebretson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) is ranked No. 3 in the country in the discus after he won the event with a throw of 164 feet, 10 inches. Senior
Nathan Basinger (Dalton, Ohio) was second in the discus at 151 feet, followed by senior
William Woltmann (Secaucus, N.J.) in seventh at 122 feet, seven inches.

- Basinger won the hammer throw with a toss of 165 feet, 10 inches, with Engebretson in second at 155 feet, 11 inches and Woltmann fifth with a distance of 143 feet. In the shot put, Engebretson placed fourth at 47 feet, 2.5 inches and Basinger followed in fifth at 46 feet, 4.25 inches.

- Sophomore
Spencer Yandrofski (Chapel Hill, N.C.) was second in the high jump at six feet, 2.75 inches, along with a fourth-place finish in the long jump at 21 feet, 0.5 inches. Sophomore
Josiah McMenamy (Yuba City, Calif.) finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, five inches.

Simon Opsahl (Redlands, Calif.) placed second in the 800 meters in 1:56.74, while senior
Nicholas Medearis (Palo Alto, Calif.) led three scoring finishers in the 1,500. Medearis was third in 4:01.24, along with senior
Matt Schofield (Shorewood, Ill.) in sixth at 4:04.28 and first-year
Samir Amin (Olympia, Wash.) in seventh at 4:04.40. Junior
McKinley Polen (Los Altos, Calif.) scored in the 100 meters as he was fifth in a time of 11.34 seconds.
