- The Lead: On Saturday, the No. 16 ranked MIT men's track and field team captured the New England Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship as the Engineers were first out of 31 teams with 132.5 total points. The title is the 15th New England Outdoor D3 Championship in program history.

Kenneth Wei (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) finished in second in the prelims of 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.68, followed by first-year
Walter Truitt (Houston, Texas) in 14.76.

- Sophomore
Jacob Hansen (Bountiful, Utah) earned MIT's first New England title of the meet as he captured the 10,000 meters in a time of 31:10.80.

- Senior
Nathan Basinger (Dalton, Ohio) placed fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 168 feet, six inches, along with first-year
Sam Engebretson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) in sixth at 161 feet, two inches.

HOW IT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY:

- Senior
Ryan Wilson (Redwood City, Calif.) captured the 800 meters in a time of 1:50.48 as he led three Engineers who scored and is now ranked seventh in the nation. First-year
Pau Ilerbaig-Bajona (Toronto, Canada) finished sixth in 1:53.50, followed by in eighth by first-year
Simon Opsahl (Redlands, Calif.) at 1:53.88.

Luka Srsic (Worthington, Ohio) earned the win in the pole vault as he is now 16th in the country after clearing 15 feet, 9.75 inches. Graduate student
Liam Ackerman (Miami, Fla.) was second at 15 feet, 3.75 inches, along with junior
Bryan Sperry (San Diego, Calif.) in sixth and senior
Everett Brandyberry (Hill City, Kan.) in seventh as both cleared 14 feet, 10 inches.

- MIT's 4x800 squad of senior
Nicholas Medearis (Palo Alto, Calif.), first-year
Samir Amin (Olympia, Wash.), first-year
Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) and Opsahl took first by just .41 seconds as they crossed in a time of 7:53.58. In the 4x400, the Engineers finished in second as junior
Evan Schaefer (Frederick, Md.), Ilerbaig-Bajona,
Ryan Wilson and senior
Matt Schofield (Shorewood, Ill.) ran a time of 3:20.35.

- Engebretson secured his first New England D3 title in the discus as he threw 157 feet, 11 inches for the win. Basinger finished in third with a toss of 147 feet, nine inches.

- In the shot put, senior
William Woltmann (Secaucus, N.J.) was second at 49 feet, five inches to go along with Engebretson in fifth at 48 feet, 2.5 inches and Basinger in seventh with a throw of 47 feet, 3.5 inches.

- After finishing third in the 110-meter hurdle prelims, Truitt took third in the finals as he posted a time of 14.58 seconds.

- Junior
Lowell Hengsen (Raleigh, N.C.) led three Engineeers in the 5,000 meters in second place while crossing in a time of 14:37.17. Junior
Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas) finished fourth at 14:42.21, along with junior
Vedang Lad (Plainsboro, N.J.) in sixth in 14:58.85.

Spencer Yandrofski (Chapel Hill, N.C.) tied for third in the high jump with a height of six feet, 3.25 inches. Graduate student
Benton Wilson (Dublin, Ohio) placed seventh in the 400 meters in 49.21 seconds, with first-year
Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) finishing eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:50.71.
