HOW IT HAPPENED – MATCH ONE vs. Oglethorpe:
-
Set 1: After a tight start, MIT put together a 5-1 spurt to go up 9-5. Oglethorpe picked up the next two points but the Engineers replied with a 7-3 run that created a 16-10 lead. The Stormy Petrels countered with a 6-2 burst, however, MIT closed the set by claiming seven of the last eight points to secure a 25-17 win.
-
Set 2: Oglethorpe slowly established an 8-4 advantage. A kill by sophomore
Lauren Keller (Albuquerque, N.M.) sparked a 10-1 run which put the Engineers ahead for good. MIT maintained its slim lead, reaching set point at 24-18 on a block by first-year
Ali Gibbs (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) and senior
Lilly Edwards (Kansas City, Mo.). A kill by the Stormy Petrels extended the frame, however, a serving error clinched the victory.
-
Set 3: Knotted at seven, Oglethorpe mounted a 10-2 run to take a commanding lead. A kill by Keller set off a string of five unanswered points which brought the Engineers within three (17-14). The Stormy Petrels gradually created some breathing room as their lead moved to 23-17. A serving error by Oglethorpe ignited a 7-0 run as a kill from senior
Emma Suh (Santa Monica, Calif.) resulted in match point. A setting error kept the Stormy Petrels alive, however, MIT capitalized on a hitting error and a kill by senior
Alyssa Unell (Scottsdale, Ariz.) to complete the comeback.

HOW IT HAPPENED – MATCH TWO vs. Lasell:
-
Set 1: Lasell inched out to a 10-4 lead and maintained a small cushion for most of the set. Trailing 21-16, MIT used a serving error by the Lasers to start a five-point run. An exchange of points ensued, moving the score to 23-22. Kills by Gibbs sandwiched an Edwards ace as the Engineers rallied for the 25-23 win.
-
Set 2: MIT scored the first five points of the set but Lasell replied with a 5-1 burst. An exchange of points followed until the Engineers rattled off four in a row, increasing their margin to 14-9. The Lasers stayed within striking distance, closing the gap to 18-17 on a block. Gragg helped MIT create some breathing room as she produced two kills and collaborated with Gibbs on a block. The back-and-forth scoring returned until a pair of Lasell errors gave the Engineers set point at 24-19. A pair of kills kept the Lasers alive, however, a kill by junior
