Sport Shorts Spotlight: No. 1 MIT Women Cruise to Season-Opening Win; No. 16 Men Take Second at Cardinal Invitational

The MIT cross country teams opened the 2025 season with strong results at the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Wesleyan. The top-ranked women dominated the 6k race with six runners in the top eight, led by senior Kate Sanderson’s runner-up finish, to claim the team title with 22 points. On the men’s side, No. 16 MIT tied host Wesleyan with 44 points in the 8k but finished second on a tiebreaker. Junior Yichen Sun paced the Engineers with a collegiate-best third-place finish, while sophomore Renne Cooper took fifth. Both squads will race next at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh on October 3.
