Sport Shorts Spotlight: MIT Men’s Soccer Battles to Road Draw, Then Nets Five in Home Win Over Springfield
The MIT men’s soccer team picked up a draw and a win over the week, earning a 0-0 draw at Endicott before defeating Springfield, 5-3, in NEWMAC play at Roberts Field. Against Endicott, the Engineers controlled possession and outshot the Gulls 18-7 but couldn’t find the back of the net. MIT’s offense came alive on Saturday, with five different goal scorers, including first collegiate tallies from Jesse Hedequist, Gianluca Balestrieri, and Chase Carroll, powering the Engineers to victory. Shikhar Motupally opened the scoring late in the first half, and MIT responded to each Springfield equalizer before sealing the match in the final seconds.
