Women's Lacrosse Secures Back-to-Back NEWMAC Titles; To Host NCAA Tournament
The No. 24 ranked MIT women’s lacrosse team secured their second consecutive NEWMAC Championship after a dominant postseason run, starting with a 17-5 semifinal victory over Babson College. During that match, Ashley Thomas broke the program record for points in a season, a feat she followed up by setting a new single-season assist record in the finals. The Engineers clinched the title with a 12-5 win against the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, marking the program’s third conference championship overall. Goalkeeper Pauline Vien was named the Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player for the second year in a row, while Nina Petulla was honored for having the highest cumulative GPA among the competitors. With a record of 16-3, MIT has earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. The team is set to host the tournament's opening rounds at Jack Barry Field, receiving a first-round bye before playing on Sunday, May 10.
