Sport Shorts: This Week in MIT Athletics

Sport Shorts Spotlight: MIT Women’s Soccer Wins Third-Straight NEWMAC Championship

The No. 8 MIT women’s soccer team captured its third consecutive and 10th overall NEWMAC title with a 3–0 win over Springfield College on Saturday at Roberts Field. Natalie Barnouw scored twice in the first half, while Lauren Won added a late goal to seal the victory. Leena Mehendale was named NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player and received the Laurels of Academic Excellence Award. With the win, MIT improves to 20–2–1 and advances to its 14th NCAA Tournament appearance and ninth in a row. The Engineers will host the NCAA First Round this Saturday on Roberts Field.

Championship Update:


Men's Cross Country

  • MIT will compete in the NCAA Division III East Regional Championship on Saturday at Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, N.H. Check the schedule for updated information as the week progresses.

 

Women's Cross Country

  • MIT will compete in the NCAA Division III East Regional Championship on Saturday at Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, N.H. Check the schedule for updated information as the week progresses.


Women's Soccer

  • MIT will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship this Saturday and Sunday. The Engineers will play Emmanuel at 11:00 AM.
  • Additional information will be posted on the team’s schedule when it becomes available.
     

Women's Volleyball

  • NEWMAC regular season champions for the third time in four years, MIT will be the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament. The Engineers will host a first round match on Tuesday at 6:00 PM against No. 8 Wellesley. Check the schedule for updated information as the week progresses.
  • Note: The highest remaining seed will host the semifinals on Saturday and the championship match on Sunday.
