Sport Shorts Spotlight: Engineers Secure Dual Top-10 National Finishes in Cross Country; Soccer and Volleyball Conclude Historic NCAA Runs
The MIT Engineers saw their fall season conclude with grit and historic milestones on the national stage. In the NCAA Tournament, the No. 8 Women’s Soccer team bowed out in the Sweet 16 after a hard-fought 1-0 loss to defending national champion WashU, ending their year tied for the most wins in program history (22). On the court, the No. 9 Women’s Volleyball team swept Franklin & Marshall before falling 3-1 to Trinity (Texas) in the Regional Final. Despite the loss, senior Daphne Gavros etched her name in the record books, setting a new program standard with 37 digs in a four-set match.
Meanwhile, in Spartanburg, S.C., the cross country teams cemented their elite status with dual top-10 finishes at the NCAA Championships. The women’s team raced to a 5th-place finish, powered by All-American performances from Rujuta Sane (12th), Kate Sanderson (25th), and Liv Girand (39th).
