Sport Shorts Spotlight: MIT Track and Field Shatters Program Records at Weekend Invitationals
The MIT men’s and women’s track and field teams delivered a historic performance this past weekend, headlined by four new program records across multiple prestigious meets. For the No. 4 ranked women’s team, Rujuta Sane set a new MIT standard in the 5000m with a time of 16:26.77, while Kate Sanderson established a program record in the 3000m at 9:30.49 and Amalia Christina Toutziaridi set a new program indoor record of 1.89m in the high jump. On the men’s side, Nolan Clement made history in the 60m dash, sprinting to a record-breaking 6.79 seconds at the Harvard Crimson Open.
Beyond the records, the Engineers showcased immense depth with dominant showings in the 5000m at Tufts and numerous top-ten finishes in field events like the high jump and weight throw. These performances significantly bolstered MIT's national standing, with several athletes climbing into the top 15 of the Division III rankings. Both squads now look to carry this momentum into next Saturday’s Springfield Triangle Classic.
