Sport Shorts Spotlight: Women’s Tennis Sets Program Record at ITA New England Regional Championship
 

MIT women’s tennis delivered a record-setting performance at the ITA New England Regional Championship, with four entries advancing to the semifinals of their respective draws. Sophia Yang and Claire Zhou highlighted the weekend by reaching the doubles championship match after defeating teammates Katie Driscoll and Anastasia Samets, 8-6, in an all-MIT semifinal. Yang also made a deep run in singles, joining Driscoll in the semifinals of the competitive “A” draw. Driscoll’s run included a quarterfinal victory over top-seeded Sandra Sikharulidze of Babson, while Yang advanced as a No. 9-16 seed. MIT will return to the court October 9 for the three-day New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament at Smith College.
